Go tell His Disciples-and Peter

Peter Do You Love Me?It’s the vision of Combined Men’s Ministry to bring reconciliation, both to Christ, and to fellow believers within the body of Christ.

But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. But go, tell His disciples-and Peter-that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you.”

Mark 16:5-7

Have you ever noticed how the angel said, “go tell His disciples-and Peter?” Just in case the other disciples were going to leave Peter out of this great news of His resurrection, they were specifically directed to tell Peter.

And when the Lord appeared to them on the beach cooking fish for breakfast, who was it but Peter who dove in the Sea of Galilee to get to Jesus first! What’s so beautiful is the great picture of reconciliation that was demonstrated when Jesus asked him three times, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me?” (John 21)

This Easter, let’s both pray for those who have never known the Lord, but also for those who have strayed — “and Peter.”

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

2 Corinthians 5:17-19

March 6, 2010: Pastor Brian Wood

Brian Wood What a great way to end the first quarter of 2010 with hope and healing that comes with preaching the Gospel.

Brian and Lorena met at Vanguard University in 1982. After graduating with their Bible degrees, Brian continued to get his Masters in Missions from Fuller Theological Seminary, and later his Doctorate of Ministry from Westminster Theological Seminary.

Over the years they have served as missionaries in Indonesia, five years planting churches and establishing a Bible school in the Philippines, and then 13 years pastoring Calvary Chapel of San Juan Capistrano, CA, which they planted. As Brian pastored, Lorena focused on Children’s Ministry and homeschooling their five children. Now God has called them to a new work in Mozambique. They are involved in training and strengthening of pastors in this land of revival and amazingly rapid church growth.

You Are Called

At Combined Men’s Ministry, we are excited to continue to encourage and edify the men of south Orange County.

Many of us wonder if we’re called. Or if we’re called, how we’re called. Or if we know how we’re called, then where we’re called. The answer is simple.

And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

Mark 1:16-18

All of us are called. It tells us in Romans 8:28 that all things work together for good for those who are called [out to meet]. Jesus calls us where we are. In this case Simon and Andrew were at work, they weren’t wondering or even concerned, yet Jesus came to them.

How were they called? Oh, they caught fish day in and day out. Jesus was going to teach them how to do that with people. He always equips the called. Where were they called? Ah, the answer can be found in Acts 1:8.

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:8

Whether your mission field is San Clemente, Orange County, California, or Mozambique, invite a neighbor, co-worker, or friend to hear an encouraging message of faithfulness in preaching the Good News.
